Tavi nodded. He looked across the dance floor at the couples and the ones looking for a partner-- the few luck ones that hadn't been arranged in marriage. He say royals and military, some of the military here a few years ago were on a farm or working in a woods shop. Every single person here were connected, some how. They at least had this party in common, but what was the point of these functions? How was it helping? The war is still raging and people are dieing- good people the kind that shouldn't have to die in this war. The same men that were on that farm or in the woods shop they were the ones that were giving their lives, and livelihood to fight. To fight for a nation that wasn't even their own. The war had started for land, was land worth this death toll?
His face had become sad stone, as it did now. "I think everyone had had their soul darkened since they were young." he stated.

"It's inevitable. Everything is eventual here. No matter what it is. Three eighths of those in this room will die within a year from some part of the war hitting them. The other five eights will suffer in some way because of it. And then the next generation will be just as spoiled and arragont as we were." Kenna said.

Tavi shook his head. "Arrogant? yes. Spoiled? most of us, yes. There are some in this room that weren't spoiled as a child and would never let their kids off easy." Tavi said. "I don't see this war ending with spoiled and arrogant leaders. That is what got us here in the first place."

"When we cannot learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it. Think of what we learned in history class. Is it not the same thing that is happening now? If we failed to learn from it, who is to say that our children and our children's children will learn from it? I don't forsee that happening." Kenna said. "Arragonce breeds arragonce. If their parents are arragont, which when these people become parents, they will be, their children will be arragont. It's a never ending cycle."

Tavi sighed. "I thought you were the optimist and I was the pessimist. When did we switch rolls?" he said with a slight smile on his lips. Any semblance dissipated with his next statement. "We learned, our parents didn't. We were still young when this war started. Now we need to apply the knowleage but we don't have the right people in power to do that."
He shut his mouth, what he was saying was treason and he knew it. For once, he didn't care though.

She smiled.
"You don't have to worry about me turning you into the hemmelige politi. I speak like that all the time with Parisa. She's worried about me and tells me to quite having such thoughts, but she'd never turn me in either. These thoughts need to be said or else we'd have no progress." Kenna said.

Tavi smiled. In truth he could care less about the secret police, they were there. They would kill him or what ever else they decided, and they wouldn't do anything worse to him. "We'll have progress, just in the wrong direction."

"Wouldn't that be anti-progress?" She asked. "No good deed goes unpunished. No act of charity goes unresented. That is the philosphy that got us here and will keep us here."

"No, progress is defined as moving forward, we aren't moving back because back would be starting over, we are definatly not doing that. Were still moving forward, time doesn't rewind." Tavi said. "Isn't that on the king's coat of arms?"

"It is? Good. Countess Dulock owes me five gold pieces of mark then." She said. "I told her that I saw that one the coat of arms, but she insists it's something more honorable, like "I fight for my people and I will succed." As if that has anything to do with what our kings do."

"You made a bet on the coat of arms? Now, Kenna, you know bets are never a good thing to take." Tavi said in a chiding tone. "No, that is the military coat of arms. The fight for my country one."

Kenna rolled her eyes.
"Gosh, you sound like my Nanny." She said. "I know bets aren't good, but Countess Dulock is rather slow and idiotic. She doesn't know hwat she's saying half the time and the other half she's wrong. I always win. It's quite amusing actually. She once bet me ten gold marks that ducks were pink."

"Ten gold marks? For a pink duck? You didn't really take advantage of that poor girl did you?" Tavi asked. "That would just be cruel."

"Hell yeah I did." She said, staring at him incrediously. "I may be a Duchess but that does not mean I have spending money you know. I'm just as strapped for cash as the rest of the world. And believe it or not, she isn't. She's got income coming in from three of her mother's four marriages and her property. She's doing fine."

Tavi gave a nod of consent. "Very true." he said. "I still can't understand how her mother went through that many marriages. I'm haveing trouble with just the wedding plans and regular duties."
