They certainly had wasted no time in crashing down upon Ingrid. The day after Kevin and anyone else who could have supported Ingrid left, the Council rained down upon her.
It started innocently enough, accusing her of fraternizing with former enemies and saying that the peace had been so new that she must have been with Kevin before the peace was made, thus making her a traitor. It was true, technically, but she protested it anyway, telling them the truth of how after they were declared enemies, they didn't see each other, ever.
But of course, no one believed her.
They were actually treating it like a trial though, which meant that while she'd find out her fate later today (They always liked to finish something before bed), she was safe for now. Her father, a few days before, had told her that he wished he could help her. But they both knew that he couldn't. The Chief's power only extended so far.
She was allowed to walk around the village unguarded as long as she wasn't caught trying to leave. With the guards patrolling at all times, she never would have found a chance, even if she had tried.
She sat down though, on the roof of a house and watched the sun set. Tonight was not going to be a good night.

Kyran had been hovering along the tree tops and came down on the same roof that Ingrid had taken her repose on.
"Do you mind if I sit with you?" she asked, seeing how sad Ingrid looked.

Ingrid nodded.
"It's fine."
The sunset was lovely. Of course, she was naturally predisposed to saying that. She didn't know how many left she would be able to see.

Kyran sat down next to her.
"Your council is a bunch of idiots." Kyran said in a straight forward, and probably surprising manner.

She nodded.
"I know. Still doesn't change what's happening." She said.

Kyran smiled, mischeviously.
"I can listen for you," she said. "It's a skill I perfected listening to my father's conversations."

Ingrid looked at her.
"I'd appreciate it, but I think I already know the answer." She said.

Kyran nodded.
"I understand. I like you and Kevin though," Kyran said. "Sorry, I was listening to the conversation this morning, with the council. You really live him don't you?"

"I know we haven't know each other long, but yeah. Yeah, I do." Ingrid said. She curled up into a ball and rested her head on her knees. "I'm glad he isn't here for this."

Kyran smiled a little.
"Time has nothing to do with anything," she said. "I don't think they'll kill you. I don't think they can."

She was quiet.
"They'll try." She said. "They don't like me and if I'm out of the way, my father has no choice but to declare Yngvarr his heir and he is the preferred one. I'll be finding out soon enough though."

Kyran's expression became confused.
"But your half brother is a horrible person." she noted.

"He's charming though, when he wants to be. Trust me, it's his charm that ruined my family. He's made the council believe he's the best choice. Besides, apparently I'm too much like my mother to ever be a good ruler. His mother may be the reason he's disliked amongst the villagers, because she wasn't a Tree person, but my mother has made me disliked amongst the Council." She said.

Kyran nodded.
"What did your mother do wrong?" she asked. "If you care to tell me, you don't have to. "

"She fell in love with the wrong person. That's all I was told, my father didn't want to tarnish my image of her after she left." Ingrid said. "She wasn't a very warm woman nor was she a very attentive mother, so I don't have many fond memories of her, of those that I do have. But I was too young to know what was going on and if the scandal is ever spoken of, it's certainly not spoken of in front of me."
