"I never said I couldn't. I said I didn't. If I joined the army, I would have been sent to the border territories, far away from here. If I survived after all that, I would come home to a wreckage. So I didn't join." Rastus said.

"Wreckage? Would the Rassi's really make it here with enough men to destroy the city? If you are coming home wouldn't he war be over?" Phyre asked.

"You really don't know much about war, do you? Yes, Rassi's could get here. They have before. And after they leave, there is nothing but wreckage. And when the war ends, it will take years to fix the wreckage, if it can be fixed." Rastus said.

"No, I've never heard anything but stories about hero's and even those have been told in a way to keep it kid friendly," Phyre said.
'If the rassi's can make it this far into Onoska what is to keep them from attacking the settlement?' Phyre thought.
"How far have they gotten? Do you know?" Phyre asked.

"This far. And Kyyra City is pretty far north. I remember that a few years ago, there was an incident where a few kids were kidnapped from a wooded area. Auntie Jay was real torn up about it. No mention of who the kids were, of course." Rastus said. "They're everywhere. You just can't always see them."

"Oh. So they haven't made it very far into the woods yet?" Phyre asked. It was possible for someone to find the encampment by accident, it hadn't happened yet as far as he knew but it could.

"Who knows?" Rastus asked. "Maybe they have, but they haven't struck yet. Maybe they haven't and they never will. You could ask Damion. He's an old friend of Auntie Jay's that has inside info on anything you may ever wanna know."

"The drunk?" Phyre asked. "I've seen him around. I'll ask him later."
Phyre started making a check list. Get Damion's information, get the books about the first war, and ask May to tell him the dark side of war. Rastus was doing a good job of it so far though.

"Yeah. Be sure to get him while he's drunk. Most drunks only talk about their life when they are inebriated." Rastus said. "Or hit him upside the head a few times. He might talk then."

"Okay. So catch him while intoxicated. That shouldn't be too hard," Phyre said. "I don't really like violence."

Rastus laughed drily.
"I can tell. You punch like a sissy." Rastus said. "You're tough. But you've never been trained how to fight. You still punch like a girl. You are very lucky Aeron was drunk when you punched him. He's actually calmer when he's under the influence. If you had caught him sober, you would not be here. Neither would he, but that's a different story....."

"Yeah. I could probably beat him in a race. But according to May that wouldn't be all that much of a feat." Phyre said. If he was going to be with May and come to town from time to time, he was going to have to learn.

"Nope!" Rastus said. "To beat any of us in a race is probably shameful for you. Because we just don't run. So we wouldn't even put up much of a challenge. That's a hollow victory and it shames those who earn it."

Phyre laughed. "Then I will make sure I never have to race any of you. I wouldn't wan that shame to be upon me." Phyre said.

Rastus smirked.
"May is the only one who has that shame upon them. So dont' join her." Rastus said. "That would only bring more shame upon her."
