Saffron came out of the shop, excited to see Harper. She saw him through the window, and grinned. He looked nervous.
Hm.
"Hey, love!" she said, coming up behind him, when he was pacing away from the door.

"Hi Saffie, um..Well...I wanted to ask you....What I mean to say is that I...Well...I was wondering if....Listen, I...." He stammered out, in a detached, incoherent manner. This was not going well. He held out the rose which held the ring to her.
"Here."

She smiled at him.
"Oh! It's gorgeous! Thank you!" she said, and kissed him on the lips.

She hadn't seen the ring.
This was either good or bad. He had a chance to redeem himself with the whole proper proposal thing or he could completely mess it up. He chose the third option, of pointing out the ring, saying nothing after that, and waiting for a reaction. See? No mess up.
"Um, Saffron?" He said.
He pointed at the ring sitting in the rose.

She looked in it.
Oh...Oh! OH!
Her eyes got wide and she looked up at him, speechless. Oh.

"Well, um..." He stammered. He was still really unable to form coherent words now that he realized he might have to the be the first person to say something.
Ok, deep breaths. In and out. In and out. In and out.
Ok, he was feeling better now.
"I love you Saffron. What do you say?"

She just smiled.
"Yes, of course silly!" she said, and kissed him again.

He kissed her back, literally dizzy with happiness and relief and joy and exhilaration, and well, pretty much every joyful emotion under the sun. And he hoped to never, ever, in his whole life, ever have to ask a question like that ever again. Well, though, the whole point of him asking this time was so that he didn't have to.
