Elly was walking with Rastus, helping him around. Apparently there was one injury that the stupid idiot had downplayed and now he was going to have to walk with a cane for Mara knows how long.
"You know I don't need help El." Rastus said.
"Knowing you, you'll be walking around alone, slip and fall and then pretend like you're ok until we find you dead the next morning because your fall permanently rattled something in that already loose screwed head of yours." Elly said.
"You only wish that would happen." Rastus said.
"Well, yes. But that's beside the point."
She took his arm and lead him to a small stone bench underneath a tree and the two sat down together, holding hands. The gesture was familiar, the two had been friends since infanthood, after all. Holding hands was something they had done since both had gotten over their cootie phase. Her thumb gently stroked his hand and they sat there in the comfortable silence.
Five or more minutes must have passed before either said something. It was Elly who broke the silence.
"I missed you." She said.
"I missed you too, kiddo." Rast said, placing a kiss on her temple. "More than you know."
She smiled at him, softly and gently, squeezing his hand.
"I love you."

He smiled and took her hand and kissed it.
"I love you too."
He had honestly never seen her smile that widely before nor had he seen her eyes filled with such relief than right now.
"Good." She answered. "I honestly have no clue what I would have done had you responded to the contrary."
"Taken my cane and beaten me with it?" He suggested.
"That was on the list, right above smacking your head down on the bench repeatedly."
"Excellent, glad to see you haven't lost your touch."
"No, but you most definitely have."
"Ahh, now that's not fair. I'll be up and running in no time and I'll get more contracts than you in my sleep."
"Never!" She replied. "I'll get more contracts than you easily."
"You wanna bet?"
"You're on."
"Ok, once I get back to work, who ever gains and completes the most contracts in three months wins." He said.
"Agreed."
The two shook upon it.
