A few days later Damion was helping out some of the settlers raise the walls for the new barn because the old one was falling apart. Jay was there but she and Amaya were ignoring him. Jay had died her hair black but what ever.
The group was running out of water so he was sent to get some when he ran in to Abigail. "Hey, Abigail what are you doing over here?"

I'm grabbing some water for some of the people over there. You're helping out at the barn-raising too?" She said. "How's the wound? Is it healing ok? No infection or anything right?"
She dipped her bucket into the well and got some water.

"The wound is fine. No infection. Let me help you with that." He said grabbing the bucket out of the well for Abby. "How are your aunts?"

"As crazy as ever. Ethel keeps pestering me to bring "that nice boy" back. I'm pretty sure she's referring to my cousin, which is their younger sister's son. Mae said that the next time I bring someone home though, that person should eat more. She thinks your too skinny I guess. And Idelle says that she liked you." Abigail said. "I suppose I should now tell you that there is a standing invitation for you to come and visit any time."

Damion smiled. "Thanks, I'll come over when i get i chance i guess." Damion said picking up the buckets of water. "What part of the barn are you working on?"

"Back part. I get the wood, pass it someone else, and it goes in a line until someone uses it to make the wall. What about you?" Abigail asked. She took her bucket.
"Oh, but I should warn you, don't come on Tuesdays. That is taco night, and Ethel's tacos give people hives. It's something that she puts in them."

"Not many people. I met another new person, Sonja, and a few other people. Everyone knows my family though. Given my family's outrageousness though, I"m not that surprised. I guess you've probably lived here for awhile though, so you probably know everyone." Abigail said.

"Yeah, I've lived here since i was a kid but I left a few years ago and I just came back. I can introduce you to a few more people if you like?" Damion said.

"You'll do fine come on." He said grabbing her wrist and dragging her over to a group of settlers. "Shannan, Kayla, this is Abigail. Abby this it Shannan and Kayla." Damion said introducing them. "Abby is new here from one of the other encampments."
Shannan asked,"Which one?"

"The one near the Rassel-Onoska border. It was recently destroyed by a group of Imperials mistaking it for a settlement of Crescents." Abigail said to Shannan. "That means that the only other settlements left now are this one and the one in Rassel."

Kayla's eyes grew wide. "Wow really? The Imperials are getting out of control this war needs to end soon or there will be no one left."
Shannan then said, "Wow Kayla way to be sympathetic. Wow Abigail i'm sorry about what happened to you my settlement got raided too."
Damion then said,"Yeah i was visiting when it happened. The Crescents at least are civil to the Woodlanders."

"Yeah, I know. My friend Sonja and I got out, and so did our families. But other's weren't so lucky. The Crescents may not be the nicest people, but they're atleast friendly to us." Abigail said. She looked around. Sonja wasn't here. It didn't surprise her, she was probably off pulling another prank.
Sonja and her had been friend for years. Abigail never had a father, so when her mother had died and her aunts and grandmother couldn't comfort her, it was up to Sonja. She was her best friend and really, her only friend.

"I haven't seen Sonja here...." Shannan said having met Sonja a couple days ago.
"I don't know where she would be," Kayla said.
"Abby do you know where she is?" Damion asked.
