Elly sat on her mother's lap. She was five years old and Amaya was twenty five, attractive, and heading out to a party with Dante, Elly's father.
"Mommy! Please? Just one story?" Elly begged. And Amaya agreed.
"Darling, I'm going to tell you about the elves." Amaya said. "Once, long ago, in this land, there was a race of tall, fair, quick people. They were one with nature and the heavens. They were elves. Their ears were pointed, of course, as all elves are and they were the envy of all kind of things. Humans, dwarves, goblins, ogres, trolls, everything. They all wanted to be elves. Well, one fateful day, after long amounts of envy and strife, a human kidnapped an elf and raped her. He then proceeded to cut her open, rip out her stomach and intestines and place them at her feet. He then cut out her liver and kidneys and placed them under her head. And her heart? He ate it. He left her lungs untouched, but sent one of her fingers in a velvet box to her father, the king of the elves. After that the elves were so offended that they would have nothing to do with the elves and retreated so far into the forest that even the woodlands couldn't find them. After that, all other sentimental creatures besides humans followed them. And now we're all alone."
Elly was peacefully sleeping by this time and Dante was at the door, laughing. Amaya laid her daughter down in bed, tucked her in and smiled. She turned to her husband.
"I swear that I told the whole truth and nothing but the truth, dear. Now let's go get drunk." Amaya said, kissing Dante on the lips.
