She rolled her eyes.
"That's great." She said, sarcastically. Of course, she longed to be able to do what she wanted, like they apparently were. But she couldn't. She just couldn't face his wrath again. She had to be good. She had to be. A disciplined, lady-like, gracious woman is what he wanted in a daughter so that's what she had to be.
"Now, if only the rest of the world was like that." She said.

Delvin shrugged. "Some of it probably is. I've never been there, so i wouldn't know." Delvin said.

Athena simply nodded.
"I've travelled to the areas around my hometown. There are a few nice towns in Rassel, despite what you might have heard. There's Anvil and Cyyrodil. And Burma." She said. "Mother has her friends in those areas and they constantly have parties, so I'm made to go."

Delvin shook his head. "Party girl?" he asked. "Or do you hate those kinds of things too?"

"I go because I have to. I don't like people. People scare me." Athena siad.

"People scare you?" Delvin said slowly. "You are a person, are you scared of yourself by any chance?"

"Yes." She said. "I scare myself alot. It's silly and I know it, but sometimes....I'm afraid of everything."

Delvin frowned.
"The world can be scary," he said. "But it doesn't have to instill fear in you. In a storm, remember that it will pass and the sun will come out. When your scared of the space just remember that it can't crush you. Every thing has something happy to think about, there is no reason to fear everything, snakes and bears i get, but everything? love? music? storms? trees? the woods? That I couldn't understand."

"First off, love is just a sadistic game of cat and mouse." She said. "Music can be used to send hateful messages. Trees will fall and kill those it lands on. You can get lost in the woods and starve to death if you're not careful. The world is filled with things just waiting to kill me. I may be paranoid, but that doesn't mean that they're not out to get me."

Delvin looked at her. "You are an extreme paranoid pessimist with an odd sense of motive. The things i listed off have no feelings, they are inanimate. They have not motive to kill you." he said. "You have never seen true love, Music is still beautiful."

"I never said music wasn't beautiful, I simply stated a pure fact." She said. "I happen to enjoy music."
She closed her eyes for a second.
"I know I'm pessimistic. I've accepted that. And you can't tell me you've never had a pessimistic moment in your whole life." She said. "And quite honestly, I'm sure that I've already got a husband picked out for me and will be forced to marry him as soon as I get back. That's how the rich people in Rassel deal with these kinds of things. Since when does love have to do with anything?"

Delvin shrugged. "Good," he said to the music. "I was pessimistic, then I got over that."
He frowned.
"That really sucks, I wouldn't be able to stand having my wife picked out for me. Granted, I probably won't get married anyway. Around here, love is everything. You marry for love, or the marriage ceremony, literally doesn't work."

"Oh really? And how does this ceremony not work?" She asked. "Does the ground rumble and split? Does fire fall from the sky? Does one of them fall down dead? Why wouldn't it work?"
She sighed.
"I don't exactly have a choice in the matter, you know. I just grin, bear it, and be glad that no one is trying to kill me." She said.

"No, nothing like that, You would have to experince the ceremony to understand, or witness it." Delvin said. There was a spiritual bond that was created when you married someone through the woodland ceremonials. It was hard to explain to a stranger... It wasn't just a bond you see at marriages either, there are other times when you just felt it.
"Grin and bear it..." Delvin said. "Sounds painful."

"It is. You should try it sometime. If nothing else, it's character building." She said. "And you had me all excited for something deadly. Damn you."
She had seen that some marriages where done for love. Acer's mother, who was more like a mother to her than her own mother was, had married for love and mourned her late husband everyday. Though so did everyone else, since he was pretty damn awesome. But despite seeing that, Thena still didn't believe most people could fall in love. That was something reserved for the special few that deserved it.
